Court Square Stadium 10 Cinemas
As the only movie theater downtown,
the Court Square Stadium 10 Cinemas is the busiest attraction in
Lincolnton. The project, situated in
what used to be the Citizen Center parking lot, has 10 screens and stadium
seating. Not only has it filled a hole left by the loss of the Historic North
State Hotel, but it has also energized downtown Lincolnton at night for
restaurants and other businesses. The movie theater is a huge catalyst for after-hours
activity downtown.
The use of this state of the art
facility is not only limited to “coming attractions” at night. It also functions
as a meeting facility during the day hosting public and private clients that
require breakout rooms for conference sessions and presentations. New food
service facilities complement the new meeting space as well as enhance and
expand the use of the existing James Warren Citizens Center auditorium.
There is no fret about where to
park. New public parking areas were included in the project. Built adjacent to
the theater on the Water Street block between Government and High Streets, the
new parking area is easily accessible for daytime use as well as for moviegoers
and accommodates the existing and additional vehicles.
The elaborately decorated art deco
architecture of the new building harkens back to the days of the grand
classically-styled movie palaces of the 1920s and 30s that “made the average
citizen feel like royalty.” Yet with a
nod to the simpler styling of the curve on the Beaux Arts Reinhardt building
across the street, the new theater complements and fits in with the existing
architecture downtown.
